35 / Does everything have to be so fast?
This sounds like a bleat of old age! But I think it's also a big part of that boring thing, 'time.' And time-keeping.
In the Mews family there were, and my son has inherited this trait, two slightly different 'times.' The real one that you see at railway stations and airports, on your laptop, on your phone ….need I go on… Then there is Mews-time. This, as a general rule, is approximately twenty minutes past the proposed or agreed time!
For some reason, I'm inclined to be boringly punctual. Except of course when I'm not! But generally speaking, this seems to be a 'character tendency. ' (More next week in Anna's Inquiring Alphabet) I go like the clappers to meet the appointed hour, not keep anyone waiting, and then… Well I sit and wait!
So if I'm being provident and coming to terms with this habit, I try to bring a book. Often being the only person in the room not on their phone. Which of course I am too, when, still in my haste, I've left the book in the car!
I've come to the conclusion that this tendency to be early and be prepared to wait, is A Good Thing. It's a moment to actually relax, go into a meditative state or even a mild torpor. Not at all lost time!
