#24 - Giving Yourself A Break Is A True Kindness: Surely You Agree?

In our always-connected world, when did you last truly disconnect? This week's MIMIT, "Stop the World," reminds us that Sunday rest isn't luxury—it's necessity. Contemplate the gentle art of stepping off technology's treadmill and discover the kindness of giving yourself permission to pause.

#24 - Giving Yourself A Break Is A True Kindness: Surely You Agree?

Often, I long for moments when you can actually be disconnected from your phone, iPad, computer – and even a landline, should you still possess one.

Just to be able to 'sit and stare!' Ideally at a mountain, a lake, a green meadow, a  river, a  tree or simply a flower of almost any description. Even a potted plant can do the trick.

In short, whatever is beautiful, natural and life-enhancing.  Absolutely not a screen of any description.  Escape as far as possible, even if for  merely five minutes!

However, most of us are, to some degree tied to the techie world.  The effect, as Google analyst James Williams wrote in his book, Stand Out of Our Light, can keep us, 'On a treadmill of incompetence.' That's exactly how I feel at times.  Word perfect!

Another  frustrating thing - Microsoft Word!  Those moments when the software trips you up, the printer snarls and you're distracted from what  you want and indeed need to write to the extent you begin thinking of pen and ink.  Alas, since my handwriting is appalling and always has been, due to being educated in two different teaching systems, that's not an option!

Now, more than ever, I'm in favour of awarding ourselves days off.  Sunday used to be sacred, in every sense of the word.  But in 2025 many of us are on duty not just seven days a week, but  answering emails and texts that don't recognise hours of the day or night.

Of course it doesn't have to be Sunday and it doesn't have to be a whole day.  Maybe a few hours.  Or coming right down to basics, even minutes, can make a huge difference.

Be kind to yourself and everyone around you!

Happy Day Off!
